The Ukiah X house is 100% off-grid: a symbol of restriction and opportunity. Designed to optimize modular construction, two modules are more than the sum of their parts. Hovering at grade, the bedrooms and bath are sheltered by the open living space above. The large roof above covers the stairs, controls the elements, and is an ample platform for the solar panels. The concrete foundation provides the storage for salvaged forklift batteries and Stuff. The resulting plinth and create an ample covered ground-floor deck and shed as an extension of the stacked box iconography.
