On HWY-1, the Screen House takes the classic California West Sun Problem head-on. Operable brise-soleil screens float like condor wings on the Eastern and Western facades to temper and filter harsh morning and evening light. The entire house is two stacked ultra-minimalist boxes, anchored by two cores floating inside. Raw materials and industrially crafted details and furnishings are the jewelry that make the space livable.

The main entry stair is tapered in a forced-perspective nod to the 1930s Casa Malaparte in Capri, and one can just imagine the ghost of Brigitte Bardot lounging on the deck beyond.
