Washington Island is only accessible via a 5-mile ferry ride across the once-treacherous Strait of “Death’s Door”. The weeHouse is a nod to the hulking steel industry infrastructures in harbors around the Great Lakes. The main portion of the house is part rock, part shed, part warehouse in form. Placed next to it is an art studio-guest house like a harbormaster’s shed. Above, a suite and office that echo the enigmatic control rooms high above elevators and industry.

Jewelry adorns the facades in the form of stairways, layered textured siding, and a gantry that holds an entry chandelier inspired by an old industrial boiler found on site.
