The Door County Barnhouse underwent a transformation—a major conversion that moved it from ‘stock blueprints’ into ‘architecture’.
The design takes its cue from the local farmhouse aesthetic. Alchemy renovated the exterior walls with durable galvalume and stained cedar corncrib siding, increasing efficiency and expressing an honest use of materials. An expressive three-season porch wraps the southern face of the home, and extends it into the landscape much like a land-locked dock. New interior alchemy includes a new stair sheathed in diamond-plate steel, a steel, laser cut graphic representing birch bark that defines the fireplace, and also hangs as kitchen shelves, and an intimate dining booth– complete with a custom canopy and a bright red venetian plaster finish.
